Lorry Permit Renewal: 6 Costly Mistakes to Avoid

An APAD permit renewal can go wrong in small ways. Renewing your APAD permit on iSPKP looks like a single click and a payment. In practice, small oversights can delay your renewal, add penalties or cost you a permit.

APAD permit renewal: commercial vehicle in Malaysia

1. Starting too late

Begin 6 months before expiry. That gives you time to fix GPS, document or system issues.

2. GPS not active on every truck

Renewal requires active GPS on ALL vehicles. One truck with an inactive unit can hold up your whole renewal.

3. Forgetting permits with no vehicle attached

Standard renewal only covers active permits with a vehicle attached. Permits you’re keeping for future use can be renewed individually, but only for one more year. If no truck is licensed under the permit during that year, it lapses and the permit is gone.

4. Letting an approval letter lapse

A Surat Tawaran Kelulusan (STK) is valid for 1 year and is extended once, automatically, for 1 more year. If no truck is licensed by then, it is gone and you have to apply all over again. An APAD Surat Kelulusan (SK) for an ubahsyarat is valid for 12 months, and based on recent applications it can’t be extended.

5. Letting a permit expire

Only expired permits can be reapplied for, and the reapplication comes with penalty charges. Renewing on time is far simpler.

6. Accidentally cancelling a permit or choosing the wrong application type

Picking the wrong option on iSPKP can cancel your permit or send your request down the wrong path. Common examples:

  • Batal sementara vs batal kekal: a temporary cancellation and a permanent cancellation are very different. Choosing batal kekal by mistake can mean losing the permit.
  • Ubahsyarat done incorrectly: a ganti kenderaan (vehicle replacement) or ubah BDM application submitted with the wrong details or the wrong application type.
  • Skipping the checks: make sure the accessories and the jenis kenderaan on the application match your truck before you submit.

Bonus: check your vehicle data

During the move to iSPKP, some permits were migrated with the wrong jenis kenderaan. Because vehicle type can’t be changed through ubahsyarat, correcting it can take a long time. Mismatches can also start at JPJ, where the details on the vehicle grant don’t match the physical body of the truck. Check your records early, and contact Dynamic Costa if something doesn’t match.
